When police and firefighters responded to a hearth at a house on Blake Avenue in Waterbury on Feb. 17, they rescued a 32-year-old man who was emaciated – weighing solely 68 kilos – and he revealed one thing that shocked police and firefighters.

He instructed them that his stepmother had held him captive in for 20 years and he set the hearth to flee, in accordance with police.

Waterbury police have arrested the person’s stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan, who denies the fees.

On Monday, NBC Connecticut obtained the video of the rescue.

It exhibits Sullivan standing exterior, holding a small canine, talking with one of many first responders.

“Who else is in the house?” a primary responder requested Sullivan.

“My stepson is in here,” she answered. “Trying to have them help them out. That’s it. I have two cats.”

“Everybody’s out?” the primary responder requested.

“Yes,” Sullivan answered.

“But your stepson’s still inside?” the primary responder requested.

“Yeah. He’s right here,” Sullivan stated.

“Alright, my dog is shaking,” Sullivan stated as she was led away from the burning dwelling.

Emergency crews then introduced the sufferer to the ambulance.

Police haven’t launched the title of the sufferer’, who faculty officers stated was unenrolled from Waterbury colleges in 2004, to guard his privateness and stated he’ll want quite a lot of help as he recovers.

The person’s story has captured hearts across the nation and folks have donated tens of hundreds of {dollars} to assist him.

In keeping with the arrest warrant issued for Sullivan, she is accused of locking her stepson in a 9-foot-by-8-foot room all day, daily with no warmth or air con. Police stated he was equipped with minimal meals and water and the warrant describes the malnourishment as life-threatening.

“That’s completely not true. He was not locked in a room. She didn’t restrain him in any means. She supplied meals, she supplied shelter. She is blown away by these allegations. It’s surprising and what’s extra surprising to me? It is how any person can (be) falsely accused of such a factor,” Kaloidis stated.

Sullivan was launched on a $300,000 bond and he or she is due in courtroom on March 26.
