Adorned of their recognizable head-to-toe pink, the Guardian Angels say they’ve resumed citizen patrols of New York Metropolis’s subway system within the wake of a very violent loss of life.

The volunteer patrol group, led by former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, will deploy groups of three throughout the transit system to maneuver all through the subway automobiles.

The Guardian Angels on patrol will conduct wellness checks on any homeless individual they encounter and supply them water, if wanted. They may also report any points to the NYPD.

It has been years because the red-clad citizen group has been seen on town’s trains. The Guardian Angels had been final seen patrolling subways in 2021 throughout a spike in violence in opposition to Asian New Yorkers.

Their return comes on the heels of the current Brooklyn homicide the place authorities have mentioned a sleeping girl was set on fireplace and died on an F practice in Coney Island.

“Since then, hundreds of citizens have requested the return of the Guardian Angels to patrol the subways,” the group claimed of their return announcement.

The mayor’s workplace put out an announcement in search of to downplay any alarms over current subway crimes and tout his file on transit security.

“The mayor surged 1,000 police officers per day into the subways, has brought down overall crime, and transit crime, delivering real action — not theatrics — but he knows there’s still more work to be done. Unlike others who only seek attention with meaningless stunts, Mayor Adams remains focused on real solutions,” Mayor Eric Adams’ workplace mentioned Sunday.
