“I saw three seagulls, a cormorant, and I got a count of 11 ducks,” defined Jones.

NBC New York walked with him and noticed a lifeless gull, a lifeless goose bobbing within the water and varied different smaller birds strewn alongside the small stretch of sand.

Jones contacted the Division of Environmental Conservation. The DEC stated it gave the impression to be avian flu as a result of there have been circumstances in Suffolk County and Nassau County earlier than. Officers from the division urged the neighborhood to shut the seaside to keep away from any contact with the lifeless birds.

Whereas bird-to-human transmission has been extraordinarily low, the avian flu might be unfold by direct contact by saliva, secretions and feces. It can be unfold by viral particles within the air and consumption of uncooked meals and milk.

Earlier this month, chook flu was detected at Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue. The farms proprietor compelled to euthanize almost a 100,000 geese.

Residents of Patchogue Shores are staying away from the seaside for now, hoping the difficulty can be resolved because the climate will get hotter.

“It’s very frightening, obviously, and I’m not quite sure what we can do about it at this point, other than to stay away,” said resident Janet Bondy, “But that becomes very difficult if you live down here.”

“It’s upsetting because people enjoy this. This is the one place where everybody who lives here enjoys, it’s something to have special, private, and it’s sad,” added Jones.

The DEC says the wind could have introduced the inflow of lifeless birds to shore. Whereas they’re assessing the experiences, they might determine to gather some chook specimens for testing.
