Two individuals have been mowed down in Manhattan’s Chinatown on Saturday morning, and police say the motive force behind the wheel was arrested after attempting to flee the scene.

The crash occurred close to Canal Avenue and Bowery, close to the Manhattan Bridge round 7:30 a.m.

Police mentioned a person on a motorcycle and a girl strolling on the sidewalk have been struck by the motive force of a Chevy Malibu after the automotive got here off of the bridge. Police say the motive force additionally rammed right into a parked NYPD van, which despatched the mangled automobile into a close-by jewellery retailer.

“They were going at least 70 [mph], whipping off the bridge,” one witness mentioned. “They come off the bridge. Next thing you know they hit these two people, clipped them.”

The remnants of the violent crash have been scattered throughout the road: a tree introduced down, bench thrown from its place, and sneakers left overlaying the street.

Police mentioned the motive force and passenger, contained in the Chevy, left the scene however have been taken into custody a few block away.

“They got to put up Jersey barriers or some kind of a permanent barrier there to keep people safe,” one other man mentioned.
