Avian flu suspected in as much as 15 chook deaths at New York Metropolis zoos

Not less than three and presumably as much as 15 birds have died of avian flu at two New York Metropolis zoos, in accordance with the group that operates the services.

The Wildlife Conservation Society stated three geese on the Queens Zoo died after contracting the virus, and lab assessments are pending on three geese and 9 wild birds that died on the Bronx Zoo after doable publicity.

“As a precaution, over the last two weeks, we have moved vulnerable bird species to protected areas in our parks,” officers stated in a press release.

On Friday, state officers ordered chook markets within the metropolitan space to shut for per week after seven instances of avian flu have been detected throughout routine inspections within the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. Gov. Kathy Hochul stated there was no instant risk to public well being and the momentary closures have been finished out of an abundance of warning.

Avian flu has hit farms nationwide, resulting in the slaughter of thousands and thousands of birds and driving up egg costs.
