Human stays present in a California riverbed 30 years in the past have been recognized as a New York Metropolis teenager who went lacking in 1975.

The partial skeletal stays had been discovered off Freeway 129, east of Rogge Lane in Santa Cruz, in line with county officers. Ever since being found in 1995, the stays weren’t recognized.

In 2019, the case was re-examined and the stays had been despatched for forensic testing. Via carbon relationship, it was decided that the particular person was probably born within the Sixties and was estimated to have died between 1977 and 1984.

Additional superior genetic testing in subsequent years was performed to seek out potential relations. The stays had been in the end recognized as these of Laura O’Malley, of Queens.

The teenager had gone lacking in 1975, and her household had not seen or heard from her since. It was not recognized when, or below what circumstances, O’Malley arrived in California.

Her loss of life stays below investigation.
