NYC opens purposes for e-bike trade-in program for meals supply employees

The New York Metropolis Division of Transportation is formally accepting purposes for its E-Bike Commerce-In Program which appears to take uncertified e-bikes and mopeds, in addition to their batteries, off the streets and borough houses.

This primary-of-its-kind program will permit eligible meals supply employees who commerce in an uncertified electrical bike, an uncertified electrical moped, or a gas-powered moped that can’t be legally registered with the Division of Motor Automobiles in alternate for a a brand new UL-certified e-bike with a spare UL-certified battery.

The aim of this system is to reinforce public security by decreasing the fireplace dangers posed by uncertified lithium-ion batteries.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

With the intention to be eligible for the trade-in, candidates have to be a meals supply employee who:

has earned a minimal of $1,500 in 2024 as a meals supply employee;

dwell in one of many 5 New York Metropolis boroughs (Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten Island);

are a minimum of 18 years of age; and

personal and use one of many eligible transportation units to finish their meals deliveries.

The units eligible for commerce embrace:

A non-UL-certified e-bike with its battery, together with spare batteries, and battery charger;

A non-UL-certified e-moped with its battery, together with spare batteries, and battery charger; or

A moped that can’t be registered with the DMV and lacks a Automobile Identification Quantity (VIN).
