A New York man obtained his sentence in connection to the kidnapping and tried theft of a pregnant lady and the youngsters beneath her care in 2023, the Dutchess County District Legal professional’s Workplace stated.

Fifty-year-old Derrick Woodhouse, of Poughkeepsie, was sentenced final week to twenty years to life after being convicted of kidnapping within the second diploma and tried theft within the third diploma, the district legal professional’s workplace stated.

The conviction stems from occasions that happened on Feb. 6, 2023, shortly earlier than 6:30 p.m. It was on that day that Woodhouse kidnapped a pregnant lady’s car whereas two kids had been seated within the backseat and held a knife to her abdomen, the district legal professional’s workplace stated.

Woodhouse threatened to harm the youngsters whereas ordering the girl to drive to an ATM and get cash. When the girl dropped the pockets and cash, Woodhouse left the car.

“This sentencing displays the gravity of the defendant’s actions,” District Attorney Anthony Parisi said in part. “The kidnapping and theft of a susceptible, pregnant lady and her kids is an egregious crime. This 20-year-to-life sentence ensures that the defendant will probably be held accountable for his actions and that justice is served for the sufferer, her household, and the group.”
