Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, confirmed Wednesday that he’s working for Congress in New York’s twelfth District, getting into a rising Democratic subject to succeed retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler.

Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, confirmed Wednesday that he’s working for Congress in New York’s twelfth District, getting into a rising Democratic subject to succeed retiring Rep. Jerry Nadler.

Schlossberg, 32, described himself as a fifth-generation New Yorker and lifelong Democrat, working to assist tackle what he known as a nationwide “crisis on every level.”

After forming an exploratory committee in September, Schlossberg, the son of Ambassador Caroline Kennedy (JFK’s daughter) and designer Edwin Schlossberg, confirmed he had formally entered the race late Tuesday.

“It’s a cost-of-living crisis fueled by the president’s so-called ‘big beautiful bill,’ the biggest cut to social programs in history. A corruption crisis as the president rakes in cash while carving up our government and selling it to the highest bidder,” he mentioned in a press release. “And it’s a constitutional crisis — one man is in control of all three branches of government, using his power to suspend civil rights, silence dissent, and send armed forces into our cities.”

“The future of our country is at stake,” Schlossberg continued. “We can do better. The Democratic Party must win back the House of Representatives and elect a new generation of leaders.”

Nadler, 78, introduced in September that he is not going to search re-election after 17 phrases in Congress, saying it was the “right time to pass the torch to a new generation.” His district covers Manhattan’s Higher West Facet, Higher East Facet, and Midtown neighborhoods.

The race to succeed Nadler is anticipated to be some of the aggressive Democratic primaries subsequent 12 months. Manhattan Assemblymembers Micah Lasher and Alex Bores have already introduced campaigns for the seat, whereas Metropolis Council Member Erik Bottcher continues to be exploring a run.

Lately, Schlossberg has carved out a reputation for himself as a high-profile Democrat on the nationwide stage, thanks partly to a considerably unconventional method to social media. In 2024, he started working as a political commentator for Vogue journal.

A graduate of Yale College with levels in legislation and enterprise from Harvard, Schlossberg has labored on the U.S. Division of State and served as a marketing campaign surrogate for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. He represented New York on the 2024 Democratic Nationwide Conference.

Schlossberg mentioned he plans to spend the approaching months assembly voters all through the district. “I hope to meet as many New Yorkers as I can, listen to their stories, amplify their voices, and earn their trust,” he mentioned.

“Our campaign is for the young at heart, the strong in spirit, and anyone who thinks we deserve better,” he added.
