The founding father of a man-made intelligence firm that provided college districts in New York Metropolis, Los Angeles and Atlanta with a chatbot to create studying plans for college kids was arrested on fraud fees Tuesday, accused of spending investor cash on herself as her firm spiraled out of business.

Joanna Smith-Griffin, 33, of Raleigh, North Carolina, was arrested in her residence state and charged with securities and wire fraud, together with identification theft.

She based ALLHere Training Inc., a man-made intelligence know-how firm that created “Ed” the chatbot. The Los Angeles Unified College District was amongst those who used the product for a time earlier than shutting it down, citing the monetary collapse of Smith-Griffin’s firm.

Authorities say the corporate’s merchandise have been additionally utilized in different main college districts together with New York Metropolis and Atlanta.

An indictment unsealed Tuesday in Manhattan federal courtroom accused Smith-Griffin of creating misrepresentations to buyers that enabled her to gather tens of millions of {dollars} illegally from them since 2020.
