Former Clark mayor, Sal Bonaccorso, was sentenced to 3 years of probation on public corruption costs weeks after pleading responsible to utilizing Clark staff for his personal enterprise, a landscaping and underground oil storage tank removing firm.

Final month, Bonaccorso, a Republican, pled responsible to utilizing township staff to function his removing firm and submitted fraudulent purposes to varied municipalities to unlawfully receive permits for the tank removals.

The plea settlement known as for the 64-year-old to resign instantly from the mayoral place he had held since 2001.

Along with probation, Choose Lisa Welsh on Friday fined Bonaccorso $15,000 and banned the previous mayor in addition to his landscaping and underground storage tank firm, Bonaccorso & Son LLC, from bidding for public contracts, getting into into any public contracts, or conducting enterprise with the state or its political subdivisions for 5 years.

“The former mayor misused taxpayer-funded resources in Clark to benefit and enrich himself at residents’ expense,” stated New Jersey Lawyer Normal Matthew Platkin. “This successful prosecution by OPIA’s Corruption Bureau ensures he will be unable to ever again abuse his authority. We will continue to hold accountable anyone who abuses the public trust no matter how powerful they may be.”

Bonaccorso’s seat was crammed by Angel Albanese. Requests for feedback by Mayor Albanese on Bonaccroso’s sentence weren’t returned. 

Bonaccorso has been controversial for years. Along with public corruption allegations, he has been recorded making racist feedback about minorities and sexist feedback about ladies cops. After NBC New York aired recordings of Bonaccorso’s offensive feedback, he publicly apologized. Friday’s plea deal was not associated to the recordings.
