The U.S. Division of Justice is suing New York Metropolis and Mayor Eric Adams over its sanctuary metropolis legal guidelines, in response to Legal professional Basic Pam Bondi.
In a put up on social media Thursday afternoon, Bondi stated Adams and town are “continuing to obstruct law enforcement” with the sanctuary metropolis legal guidelines in place.
“If New York’s leaders won’t step up to protect their citizens, we will,” the put up from Bondi stated.
Along with the mayor, the lawsuit names the New York Metropolis Council, NYPD, Division of Correction, Division of Probation and the commissioners of these respective departments, together with police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
The case was filed within the Jap District of New York. It comes after related lawsuits have been filed in opposition to Los Angeles, a number of cities in New Jersey, New York state and others over sanctuary insurance policies that the DOJ stated in a press launch had been “unconstitutional.” The Trump administration has stated such legal guidelines intervene with federal immigration officers’ skill to do their jobs and impede data sharing insurance policies.
