A highschool senior was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, throughout an immigration listening to in Hartford this week, in line with Meriden Public Colleges.
A Maloney Excessive Faculty twelfth grader was taken into custody simply days earlier than commencement throughout a listening to that wasn’t felony in nature, Mayor Kevin Scarpati stated.
“While I cannot share details about specific students, I can assure you that students who meet all of the Meriden Public Schools graduation requirements will be issued a diploma from the Meriden Board of Education,” Superintendent Mark Benigni stated in a press release.
Meriden Public Colleges stated ICE has not contacted them.
Scarpati advised NBC Connecticut that the town has been involved with the scholar’s household and members of our federal delegation.
“We respect the family’s privacy as they deal with this challenging situation,” Benigni stated.
Maloney Excessive Faculty has commencement slated for subsequent Tuesday.
