A 31-year-old man died whereas operating the Brooklyn Half Marathon on Saturday morning, race officers stated.

The runner made it roughly eight miles by means of the Brooklyn borough course when he “experienced a medical incident” alongside Ocean Parkway.

“It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we confirm the passing of one of today’s race participants,” Rob Simmelkjaer, the CEO of New York Street Runners, stated in a press release.

“On behalf of the whole running community, we extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.”

Officers stated CPR was carried out on the person earlier than he was transported to Maimonides Medical Heart. Extra particulars in regards to the runner weren’t recognized, besides that Saturday’s race was his first with NYRR.
