On the heels of a federal decide dropping Mayor Eric Adams’ historic corruption fees, Hizzoner introduced on Thursday that he would forego the Democratic major and as an alternative pursue an unbiased bid for re-election.

“Today, Mayor Eric Adams officially declares his candidacy for re-election as an independent candidate for Mayor of New York City,” Adams’ marketing campaign spokesperson Todd Shapiro stated in a press release.

Politico first reported the event.

“New Yorkers are strong, and deserve strong leadership,” the mayor stated in a marketing campaign video launched Thursday morning. “There isn’t a liberal or a conservative way to fix New York; there is a right way or a wrong way. … I’ve always put New York’s people before politics and party, and I always will.”

Adams’ transfer confirmed weeks of hypothesis that he would take his possibilities within the normal election, fairly than compete in a Democratic major he had more and more little likelihood of successful. Latest polls have him with a 20% approval score.

This can be a growing story; examine with amNY.com later for updates.
