Manhattan Councilmember Erik Bottcher, the co-chair of the Metropolis Council’s LGBTQIA+ Caucus, raised $683,241 within the first 24 hours since saying his potential candidacy for Congress to succeed veteran Consultant Jerrold Nadler in New York’s District 12.

“It’s clear that people across the district are hungry for a new generation of leadership that will stand up for our values and deliver real results,” Bottcher mentioned. “I’m deeply grateful to everyone who contributed and showed their support. In the weeks ahead, I’m looking forward to having many conversations with neighbors across Manhattan and will share more about my decision soon.”

The much-anticipated Democratic major race to switch Nadler is predicted to characteristic a number of candidates. Micah Lasher, a Manhattan assemblymember who beforehand served as an aide to Nadler, has already introduced his candidacy for the seat. Two different potential candidates — Alex Bores, and former President John F. Kennedy’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg — may be within the combine, in keeping with the New York Occasions.

Whereas he weighs a Congressional marketing campaign, Bottcher is concurrently within the midst of a re-election bid for his seat within the Metropolis Council, although he faces little competitors in that race.

Bottcher’s marketing campaign web site, which at present displays his marketing campaign for Metropolis Council, states that he “will not accept contributions from real estate developers, anyone employed at a lobbying firm, corporate political action committees (PACs), or the fossil fuel industry.”
