A small industrial airliner and a army helicopter collided and crashed into the Potomac River close to Reagan Nationwide Airport Wednesday night, D.C. Hearth and EMS confirmed.
The airliner had about 60 folks aboard. It is not identified what number of have been aboard the helicopter.
An FAA assertion says: “A PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet collided in midair with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter while on approach to Runway 33 at Reagan Washington National Airport around 9 p.m. local [Eastern] time. PSA was operating Flight 5342 as American Airlines. It departed from Wichita, Kansas.”
There’s a large emergency response unfolding. Fireboats are within the water, and the Metropolitan Police Division additionally confirmed it’s responding.
Hearth departments from throughout the area are staging at Gravelly Level north of Reagan Nationwide.
All takeoffs and landings have been stopped at Reagan Nationwide.
The FAA stated it and the NTSB will examine, with the NTSB main the investigation.
