Arrest made in beating loss of life of pioneering Black Bronx rocker

Police in New York Metropolis have arrested a person in reference to the beating loss of life of a pioneering rock musician within the Bronx.

Sharief Bodden, 29, was charged Friday within the killing of Peter Forrest, a 64-year-old Bronx resident, who below the stage title P. Fluid had been a frontman for twenty-four/7 Spyz.

The Bronx band was a part of a wave of Black-led rock teams, together with Residing Color and Fishbone, that emerged within the Nineteen Eighties, melding components of heavy steel, funk, R&B, punk and different genres.

Among the many band’s signature songs was was a remake of Kool & the Gang’s “Jungle Boogie.” Forrest give up the band throughout its 1990 tour with Jane’s Habit, in response to Rolling Stone.

The Black Rock Coalition, a New York-based artists’ collective, remembered Forrest as an “essential chapter to an essential band” within the historical past of the group, which was fashioned by Vernon Reid of Residing Color and different Black musicians.

“Fluid was one of the most creative, charismatic, energetic and powerful frontmen in the business,” the group wrote on its Fb web page. “His stage presence and dynamic persona have been matched solely by a uncommon few.”

Police say Forrest was discovered unconscious and crushed contained in the personal ambulette bus he drove on Monday. He was pronounced lifeless on the scene, and the health worker’s workplace decided he had blunt drive accidents to his head and torso.

Bodden faces homicide, manslaughter, legal possession of a managed substance and legal possession of a weapon costs.
