A girl who jumped right into a Lengthy Island canal in an effort to save lots of her runaway canine ended up needing assist herself to flee the frigid waters.

Lorena Henao’s rambunctious Chow Chow named Dogie escaped their Massapequa yard Wednesday by a gap dug beneath a fence. The three-year-old pooch then ran down the block and jumped right into a canal that was stuffed with geese.

Henao was chasing after him, and leapt into the water proper after her beloved pet. She informed NBC New York she was afraid Dogie was going to die.

“I don’t have kids. I only have this dog,” stated Henao. “My reaction was to jump into the water.”

She was in a position to seize her canine rapidly, however then neither might escape the 4 ft of water that now surrounded them. The water was so chilly, Henao stated she could not really feel her legs and arms.

“The doctor said five more minutes and she would be just, out,” stated Henao’s husband, Oscar.

Lorena stated she spent about ten minutes within the ice chilly water.  Any time greater than that might have confirmed lethal, her husband stated. Finally a passerby helped pull her canine to security after which first responders rescued her.

Henao was rushed to the hospital and handled for hypothermia.

“I know that it was something irresponsible for my health, but I do it, I do it for him,” she stated.

As for Dogie, on Thursday he appeared unaffected by his dip into the chilly canal. However these had been moments his homeowners will not neglect, and had been grateful the end result wasn’t a lot worse.

“It’s like a movie you know. When those things happen, you don’t know how you will react,” stated Henao.
