David Whitman of South Pasadena works out of his patio to make water pumps that he likes to name “little fire engines.” He describes them as self-contained sprinkler programs that pump water out of swimming swimming pools and onto properties to assist defend them from fires.
Whitman’s instrument showcased its full potential when a father and son duo used the pump to guard their Palisades Highlands dwelling from the Palisades Fireplace. Since then, Whitman’s firm, Brushfire Battle Programs, has seen an inflow of shoppers’ requests.
“This is my passion project,” Whitman mentioned. “And it’s turned into a little more than that.”
