All faculties in New Jersey’s Montclair College District are closed Monday due to a social media menace directed at a particular workers member, in keeping with Montclair police. Regulation enforcement officers consider the menace got here from a workers member who’s at present on administrative go away, police stated.

Authorities say directors have been made conscious of a possible menace late Sunday made by way of social media. They contacted police who have been in a position to decide the menace was made towards a particular workers member on the Northeast Elementary College. Police didn’t say what workers member was the topic of the alleged menace or the main points of the menace or the way it was made.

Late Monday morning, the district superintendent, Damen Cooper, launched a press release saying the menace has been “neutralized.”

“I want to inform you that, through the diligent efforts and collaboration with the Montclair Police Department, the threat we were addressing has been neutralized,” the superintendent’s message stated.

“I understand that this situation may have caused anxiety and disruption for our entire school community. Please know that every step taken was guided by our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families. Your safety remains my highest priority,” the district stated.

Police named 45-year-old Amir Doctry, a workers member on administrative go away from the district, because the suspect within the case. Police stated he was situated in Philadelphia and was arrested and charged with terroristic threats, with extra expenses pending.

Montclair police elevated patrols round all faculties within the district “out of an abundance of caution” and stated “there is no further danger to our community.”

It is unclear why Doctry is on go away from the district.

“The Montclair School District received an unspecified threat which led to the decision to close schools on Monday January 13, 2025. The Montclair Police Department and The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are actively investigating this matter. Currently there is no immediate threat to the safety of the schools,” in keeping with the county prosecutor’s workplace.

The FBI additionally was concerned within the investigation.
