A Brooklyn actual property magnate pleaded responsible Friday to working with a Turkish authorities official to funnel unlawful marketing campaign contributions to New York Metropolis Mayor Eric Adams.

Erden Arkan, 76, entered the plea to a conspiracy cost in Manhattan federal court docket, telling a choose that he knowingly violated the legislation by reimbursing workers of his building agency for his or her donations to the Democrat’s marketing campaign.

“When I wrote the checks, I knew the Eric Adams campaign would use the checks to apply for public matching funds,” he mentioned.

Arkan is one among a number of people implicated in a sprawling bribery and unlawful marketing campaign finance indictment introduced in opposition to Adams in September. He’s the primary to plead responsible throughout a public continuing.

They allege that Adams personally solicited the donations from Arkan and the Turkish official at a April 2021 dinner. The next month, Arkan held a fundraiser on the headquarters of his building firm, KSK, through which 10 workers donated between $1,200 and $1,500 to the marketing campaign. They had been later reimbursed by Arkan, making them unlawful straw donations.

Adams then used these funds to fraudulently get hold of public cash beneath the town’s matching funds program, which supplies a beneficiant match for small-dollar donations, prosecutors allege.

Arkan and his legal professional, Jonathan Rosen, declined to remark as they exited the courtroom Friday.
