Highest-ranking NYPD officer resigns immediately, interim alternative named

The New York Metropolis Police Division has confirmed a shake-up on the prime of the division following the Friday night time departure of its highest-ranking uniformed officer.

Chief of Division Jeffrey Maddrey resigned immediately and was changed by Chief of Patrol John Chell, Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed in a press release. Chell was named interim chief of division.

In Chell’s place, Tisch introduced that Chief of Transportation Philip Rivera will assume the chief of patrol submit.

“The NYPD works tirelessly to protect New Yorkers, and these roles are critical to keeping our communities safe,” Tisch stated. “The interim Chiefs of Department and Patrol will continue to lead the efforts to reduce crime and disorder and build public trust.”

In accordance with the NYPD, the chief of division is tasked with overseeing the division’s “crime-fighting strategies, quality of life initiatives, and operational plans.”

Tisch’s assertion didn’t point out Maddrey by identify.

Maddrey served two years as chief of division. In that point, he labored below 4 totally different police commissioners. Former Commissioner Keechant Sewell appointed Maddrey in December 2022 — she was preceded by Eddie Caban, Tom Donlon and Tisch, who has been on the job for lower than a month.
