Gov calls for probe as energy outage strands hundreds of subway riders for hours

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is asking for an investigation into the subway meltdown that stranded hundreds of riders for hours beneath floor Wednesday night time, demanding the MTA do a deep dive into what went fallacious.

Consolidated Edison can be investigating.

The MTA says energy was misplaced round 5:30 p.m. between Jay Avenue-Metrotech and Hoyt-Schermerhorn stations in Brooklyn due to an underground fireplace, which disrupted service on the A, C, F and G traces on the top of the night rush. Trains alongside these traces misplaced energy, trapping prospects beneath floor, or needed to be rerouted.

Based on the MTA, 3,500 riders needed to be helped off two F trains that had been stalled resulting from energy loss. “We thank the hundreds of transit workers, firefighters, NYPD officers and responders from other agencies who worked to quickly assist riders on two trains stuck between stations following a Con Ed power failure,” NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow mentioned in a press release late Wednesday. “Fortunately, evacuations were orderly and there appear to be no serious injuries. NYC Transit will work with Con Ed to understand how a limited outage in a redundant system could create a significant disruption to service.”
