In a disturbing discovery at a Lengthy Island residence, police stated almost a dozen canines have been discovered dwelling in deplorable circumstances, with a number of the canines testing constructive for cocaine.

A tip led the Suffolk SPCA and Suffolk County police to execute a search warrant round 4:30 p.m. Saturday on the dilapidated residence in Centereach, the place investigators discovered 11 canines that had been uncovered to, amongst different issues, medication and drug paraphernalia.

Crews on Tuesday have been boarding up the Brookhaven home that has since been condemned. A neighbor stated {that a} father and son had been dwelling there.

“They’ve had rats running up and down that blanket, using it as a highway into the house,” stated Kevin DiMangano, pointing to am open window with what gave the impression to be a snug popping out of it. DiMangano stated he had heard canines barking and noticed indicators of hassle, just like the overgrown yard exterior the home. “The smell could just knock you over. It was that bad,” stated SPCA Chief Roy Gross.

Christopher DiGiovanna, who was discovered hiding inside, was arrested on animal cruelty fees.

Rescued from the filth and feces have been 10 chihuahuas and a St. Bernard, in line with Gross. Many of the canines have been left confined to only one small bed room that had dwell electrical wires uncovered and hypodermic needles strewn about. Some have been underweight, flea-ridden, ungroomed and coated in urine, the SPCA stated.

Shockingly, two of the chihuahuas examined constructive for cocaine, in line with Gross.

“I can’t say if he gave it to them purposely or they just got into his stash. I don’t know. But they did test positive,” stated Gross, noting investigators did discover drug paraphernalia among the many rubbish inside.

“Leaving stuff out like that, whether it’s animals or children, it could be deadly,” Gross stated.

“Chihuahuas on cocaine doesn’t seem like the best thing to have. It was shocking, yes. Definitely shocking,” DiMangano stated.

The canines who survived dwelling within the horrific circumstances have been dropped at rescue teams just like the Little Shelter in Huntington.

The SPCA says it was the seventeenth hoarder home to be shut down in Suffolk County in 2024 alone. Officers are urging residents who suspect conditions like this in a neighbors residence to name authorities instantly for assist.
