Since day one, our administration has had a transparent mission: construct a safer, extra reasonably priced metropolis for working-class New Yorkers, and daily, we’re delivering on that mission. Jobs are up, our streets are safer with crime down throughout the town each month this 12 months, and we have now a document 183,000 small companies throughout the 5 boroughs — the best ever in our metropolis’s historical past.

Day after day, we’re working to verify New Yorkers have the alternatives to develop their companies and repair their metropolis. That’s the reason we have now made document investments in the direction of our Minority- and Ladies-Owned Enterprise Enterprise Program — also called M/WBEs — placing a reimbursement into communities which have been denied a good shot for too lengthy; and this 12 months has been one other record-breaking 12 months for M/WBEs.

This previous 12 months, we awarded the best variety of metropolis contracts to M/WBEs ever and set a document for M/WBE awards inside our metropolis businesses, awarding a complete of $1.59 billion {dollars} to M/WBEs throughout the 5 boroughs — that may be a 15 % enhance since Fiscal 12 months 2022, the primary fiscal 12 months of our administration. However behind every of those numbers can be a human story — sisters and brothers of coloration lastly ready open to their small companies, assist their households, and get forward; small enterprise house owners with large desires that need a honest shot to show that dream right into a actuality; and so many extra.

For too lengthy, communities of coloration have been locked out of constructing wealth and have discovered it troublesome to get their companies off the bottom. We can not settle for a metropolis the place individuals of coloration miss out on the prospect to construct wealth for themselves, their youngsters, and their grandchildren. That’s the reason metropolis authorities is main the way in which with our M/WBE program and displaying we will put money into communities of coloration, whereas concurrently delivering a high quality product for New Yorkers. We all know that once we create the situations for small companies to succeed our total metropolis wins.

Our M/WBE program is supporting that younger couple who’s dreaming of constructing a small enterprise, the mom-and-pop shops that imply a lot to our neighborhoods and tapping into the expertise we have now in our communities that need to assist construct our economic system and our metropolis.

Three many years in the past, Mayor David Dinkins made historical past by creating the town’s Minority- and Ladies-Owned Enterprise Enterprise Program, and whereas we have now achieved historic milestones throughout the program, we should set the bar even greater going ahead. That’s the reason, final week, we introduced the creation of the M/WBE Advisory Council to assist advance the administration’s historic progress on supporting minority- and women-owned companies.

Underneath our administration, Black and Brown unemployment in New York Metropolis is at its lowest level in half a decade. We now have narrowed this hole by delivering new alternatives to communities throughout the 5 boroughs which have been neglected for a lot too lengthy. Our administration understands {that a} job is what allows us to realize the American Dream. That’s the reason we have now made historic investments in M/WBEs — working to attach New Yorkers to metropolis contracts, profession alternatives, and good-paying jobs. We’re opening the doorways of alternative for communities throughout the 5 boroughs as a result of working individuals deserve their justifiable share, and we’re giving it to them.
