Corridor of Fame goaltender Ed Giacomin has died. He was 86.
The New York Rangers and NHL Alumni Affiliation introduced Giacomin’s dying Monday.
An Alumni spokesperson mentioned the group discovered from a board member of the Detroit Purple Wings alumni that Giacomin died at his house Sunday evening.
Giacomin gained the Vezina Trophy because the league’s prime goalie and was a five-time All-Star throughout greater than a decade with the Rangers from 1965-76 earlier than ending his profession with Detroit. His No. 1 is retired within the rafters at Madison Sq. Backyard in New York, and he was inducted into the Corridor of Fame in 1987.
The Rangers in an announcement mentioned Giacomin personified what it meant to play for the franchise, including, “You cannot discuss the history of this organization and not immediately think of Eddie.”
