The board voted throughout its Aug. 28 assembly to block the incumbent mayor, a Democrat working as an impartial, from receiving public funds once more. CFB Chair Frederick Schaffer cited the identical causes for the board’s determination because the final time it dominated to withhold matching funds from Adams’ marketing campaign earlier this month.

“The board determined Mayor Adams’ campaign failed to demonstrate eligibility for public funds payment at this time on two grounds: one, a failure to provide requested informationl; and two, reason to believe the campaign violated the law,” Schaffer stated through the Aug. 28 assembly.

The board chair added that the CFB’s investigation into Adams’ marketing campaign is “still ongoing.”

Adams marketing campaign claims ‘anti-democratic bias’

The mayor’s marketing campaign sued the CFB for a second time final week over its determination earlier this month, arguing that its repeated denials present “anti-democratic bias” towards him.

Adams’ spokesperson, Todd Shapiro, stated in a press release that the marketing campaign is “awaiting” the result of that go well with.

“We strongly believe that the mayor’s rights must be treated fairly and equally, just as with every candidate in this race,” Shapiro stated. “Mayor Adams has followed all proper procedures, put everything in order under the legal process, and filed accordingly. We remain confident that we are on the right road and will continue working through this process to ensure fairness and equal treatment under the law.”

The board had cited Adams’ federal bribery case and failure to file required paperwork on time when it first denied his marketing campaign public {dollars} final December. However a federal decide dismissed the costs in April on the behest of President Trump’s Justice Division.

Consequently, the board has shifted its reasoning in its current selections to disclaim Adams public funds to give attention to his marketing campaign’s alleged failure to offer required data in a well timed method and its suspected violations of the legislation slightly than the indictment.

Though the mayor’s marketing campaign has but to unlock public funds this cycle, it has been making up the distinction by aggressively bringing in non-public donations. Final week, the marketing campaign reported raking in $420,886 between July 12 and Aug. 18, and has almost $4 million in its coffers.

In the meantime, the board awarded Adams’ principal opponents giant payouts.
