A hearth below a PATH practice brought on main issues for riders throughout Monday’s morning rush, with a number of busy traces suspended and passengers being handled for smoke inhalation.
Based on the Port Authority, which runs the PATH, it broke out below an eastbound practice within the Newport Station round 6:20 a.m. It wasn’t clear what sparked the hearth. The practice needed to be evacuated.
Suspensions lingered into the morning rush. Each the Hoboken-WTC and Journal Sq.-Thirty third Road traces had been shut down. WTC-Newark and Hoboken-Thirty third Road are working. Tickets are being cross-honored.
Video posted to X confirmed a major smoke situation in a practice automotive, with seen flames.
There have been no rapid experiences of serious accidents. Some passengers had been handled for smoke inhalation, although all are anticipated to be OK.
