U.S. Rep. Grace Meng has launched laws that may require United States Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) brokers to visibly show their badge, badge quantity and regulation enforcement affiliation when finishing up arrests or questioning people.

Meng’s laws, launched on July 9, seeks to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act with updates to identification necessities for ICE brokers amid ongoing debate and controversy about masked ICE brokers finishing up arrests and detentions.

In a press release issued on July 9, Meng stated the laws would guarantee a “level of transparency” between the general public and federal regulation enforcement.

She stated she launched the laws in response to an “alarming trend” of ICE brokers conducting immigration enforcement with out figuring out themselves, including that the laws was a “commonsense” answer.
