The Elizabeth Road Backyard declared victory on Monday after New York Metropolis suspended its years-long effort to convey inexpensive housing to the Manhattan neighborhood.

For months, the backyard’s organizers waged a public marketing campaign in an try and fend off an official eviction order and persuade the Metropolis to discover different avenues for constructing new housing. Our rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods have been desperate for homes that working people can actually afford – and now we will have hundreds of new neighbors, and old neighbors with new homes, right here.”

Adams additionally mentioned the backyard is extending its hours and “become more accessible to all New Yorkers.”

The Elizabeth Road Backyard will now be open from 8 a.m. to eight p.m. each day.
