ICE releases assertion following arrest of 4 workers at Conn. automotive wash

Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, is talking out after arresting 4 workers at a automotive wash in Southington earlier this week.

ICE stated they performed “random worksite enforcement outreach” on the D-hand automotive wash on Monday.

The supervisor of the automotive wash, Herman Riverez, advised us 4 of his workers have been detained after working there for eight years.

“Ensuring compliance with federal employment laws is crucial to maintaining a fair and competitive business environment,” HSI New England Particular Agent in Cost Michael J. Krol stated in a press release.

“Businesses, such as D-Hand, that employ unauthorized workers not only undermine the integrity of our immigration system, but also gain an unfair advantage over law-abiding companies. HSI [Homeland Security Investigations] is committed to identifying and addressing these violations to protect both the legal workforce and honest businesses,” the assertion reads.

4 individuals have been arrested by ICE brokers at a automotive wash in Southington on Monday.

Riverez stated the ICE brokers requested everybody for his or her paperwork earlier than they got here to the automotive wash, and have been finally detained.

The company reiterated that they’re “tasked with enforcing the business community’s compliance with federal employment eligibility requirements, and has the responsibility to conduct comprehensive worksite enforcement initiatives targeting employers who violate employment laws.”

“During these operations, any alien determined to be in violation of U.S. Immigration laws may be subject to arrest, detention, and, if removal by final order, removal from the United States,” the assertion reads.

Southington Council Member Jack Perry stated Southington police weren’t advised ICE brokers could be coming to their neighborhood.

ICE has not but launched any details about the alleged arrest of a Meriden teen, who was detained simply days earlier than his highschool commencement, or a mom, who was detained whereas driving her children to high school in New Haven.

Meriden Mayor Kevin Scarpati and New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker stated they stand with these households, and have promised to do what they will to assist.
