A cellular phone video taken by a house owner in West Islip captures the noise of her home shaking, as vibrations from close by building work disturb the peace.

“I’ve never experienced something like this,” Jones mentioned, talking of the tremors that shook her residence of greater than 40 years.

The vibrations have brought on vital injury to her home, she explains. The bottom underneath her residence shifted, leaving her kitchen ground uneven and cupboards displaced from the partitions.

“I’m not asking for anything more, I’m just asking to get what I had back and all the damage fixed,” Jones added. She is certainly one of 31 plaintiffs concerned in a lawsuit filed by Agulnick Kremin, PC towards Good Samaritan Hospital, alleging that the “excavation and pile driving” on the hospital property, has broken their houses.

“Cracks in the walls, cracks in the foundations, doors not closing properly,” Agulnick mentioned, detailing the problems confronted by the owners. “When that condition changes basically overnight, it’s very difficult for them to say ‘oh it’s just an old house.'”

Catholic Well being, which owns Good Samaritan Hospital, responded to the claims by saying in a press release, “We want to assure the communities we serve that the article does not reflect the strong partnership and open dialogue we’ve worked hard to build with our neighbors. Throughout the process, we’ve taken proactive steps to keep residents informed and address concerns.”

They are saying in June 2023, “Good Samaritan sent letters to local residents requesting information—such as photos, engineering reports, and repair estimates—to help contractors and their insurers assess and resolve claims. While several claims were promptly addressed, some residents chose not to participate in the process and instead pursued litigation, which remains ongoing.”

One other plaintiff, David Roth had been deployed and was in Kuwait when the vibrations shook his residence.  His spouse and youngsters had been residence alone when it occurred.

“She really thought there was an earthquake happening, everything was shaking in this house,” Roth mentioned. When he returned residence, he found vital injury, together with a shifted window and cracks within the ceilings and partitions.

“I want to see them actually help us fix our homes,” mentioned Roth.  “That’s the ultimate goal here.”

A spokesperson for the hospital defined that the work in query was a part of a FEMA-funded flood resiliency mission. The mission, led by skilled contractors, was designed to guard the hospital and surrounding communities throughout emergencies and what’s referenced within the lawsuit has nothing to do with a brand new Affected person Care Pavilion that’s on monitor to open in December.
