A fireplace – suspected to be an arson – pressured Gov. Josh Shapiro and his household out of their official Harrisburg residence early Sunday morning, Pennsylvania State Police stated.
Firefighters responded to the blaze at round 2 a.m., based on authorities. State troopers awoke the Shapiro household, who had been in a distinct part of mansion, and helped them evacuate, officers stated.
Nobody was injured, although the flames “caused a significant amount of damage” to a portion of the property, State Police stated in a press release. Investigators stated they consider the fireplace was set deliberately; nevertheless, police didn’t element a selected trigger.
“Every day, we stand with the law enforcement and first responders who run towards danger to protect our communities,” Shapiro stated on social media. “Last night, they did so for our family – and Lori and I are eternally grateful to them for keeping us safe.”

Authorities haven’t commented on a potential motive, and nobody has been arrested. The State Police are providing a $10,000 reward for data resulting in a terror and conviction within the alleged arson.
“I won’t speculate on motivations, but I will say that targeting elected officials and their family members with violence is never acceptable,” Lt. Gov. Austin Davis stated in a submit on X, previously generally known as Twitter. “These sorts of acts deter good people from pursuing public service at a time when we desperately need more Americans to participate in our democracy.”
The 29,000-square-foot house is positioned in Harrisburg’s Uptown neighborhood and hosts artwork displays, along with the official residence.
