LaGuardia Group School has introduced Jennifer Jensen, the previous curator of the Jackie Robinson Museum, as its new archive director.

Jensen, who formally took over the function on March 17, takes over as Director of the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives, described as a repository of data on New York Metropolis’s social–political historical past with an emphasis on the mayoralty and the borough of Queens.

LaGuardia stated the archives, which function roughly 2.5 million digitized paperwork and pictures, are repeatedly accessed by researchers, journalists, college students, students, and coverage makers who study the historical past of Larger New York.

Collections housed on the archives embrace the information of the New York Metropolis Council and New York Metropolis Housing Authority (NYCHA), Queens native historical past and LGBTQ activism and chosen paperwork from the administrations of Mayors Fiorello H. LaGuardia, Robert F. Wagner, Edward I. Koch and Rudolph Giuliani.

In her new function, Jensen will oversee the administration of the archives’ collections and develop methods for constructing and increasing them. She can even lead strategic planning, operational, and monetary administration actions for the archives, that are a part of the Workplace of the President.

Jensen, who will report back to LaGuardia Chief-of-Workers Nayelli Valencia Turrent, can even domesticate, solicit, and steward items for the archives and assist oversee the acquisition of recent collections.

“I am thrilled to be joining the LaGuardia College Community as the new Director of the LaGuardia & Wagner Archives,” Jensen stated in a press release, including that she hopes to make the archives extra accessible to college students, school and workers as a useful resource for analysis, curriculum and exhibitions throughout her tenure.

Jensen additionally said that she hopes the archives will grow to be a middle for each formal and casual studying alternatives.

“I want to share my passion for local New York history, focused on the Queens community and the college. I look forward to meeting the community in the coming weeks and months,” Jensen added.

Individually, the archives will host a brand new exhibition on the campus at 31-10 Thomson Ave. in Lengthy Island Metropolis centered on the previous, current and way forward for open areas at NYCHA housing complexes.
